Overview
Agadir is a city on the southern Atlantic coast of Morocco, in the foothills of the Anti-Atlas Mountains. It is known for its golf courses, long beaches and seaside restaurants and cafés. A ruined Kasbah overlooks the city from a nearby hill. Agadir has a beautiful medina, museums, markets, including a bird market, and other places to visit.
Itinerary
Start on your adventure from Agadir early in the morning. Your destination is
Tata, a historic city nestled on the desert plain near the Algerian border and the
Anti-Atlas Mountains. Tata will serve as your base for exploring the region. Visit
the Akka Oasis and the Oum el Alek rock carvings, renowned for their
prehistoric rock art. Explore the scenic landscapes of Tircht and Ait Herbel,
traveling along a picturesque road. Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the stunning
surroundings. Continue to Tata for an overnight stay in a comfortable hotel or a
unique desert camp.
After breakfast, set out towards the Erg Chigaga dune field. Make a stop at
Foum Zguid for lunch, and then venture off-road through the dry Lake Iriqui to
reach the majestic Erg Chigaga, the largest and most pristine dune field in the
Moroccan Sahara. Witness the awe-inspiring sunset over the dunes, followed
by a traditional tea and dinner. Spend the night in a traditional Berber tent or
under the stars, immersing yourself in the desert experience.
Start your day early to catch the sunrise over the dunes. Enjoy a camel ride
through the vast desert landscape before returning to the camp for breakfast.
Depart for M’Hamid, a key gateway to the Sahara. Relax with a shower and
lunch at a local hotel. Next, head to Tamegroute to explore its historical
kasbah, the Koranic library, and traditional pottery. Continue your journey
through the scenic Dra’a Valley to Zagora and then to Agdz. Enjoy dinner and
spend the night in a comfortable hotel.
After breakfast, visit a nearby Berber village and explore a carpet-weaving
cooperative. Continue to Taliouine, renowned for its saffron production, and
visit another craft cooperative along the way. Proceed to Taroudant, known as
"Little Marrakech" for its distinctive red ramparts. Enjoy a lunch stop en route.
Arrive back in Agadir by early evening, concluding your memorable desert
adventure.
